Stainless steel sink scrubber
Cutting a grapefruit in half and adding kosher salt to one of the open half can be used to scrub down a grimy sink and make it shine again. The combination of acidity in the grapefruit and abrasiveness of the kosher salt can remove rust and lime scale.
Microwave
Lemon juice can be added to water in a small bowl and heated on high for 3 minutes in the microwave. Wait 5 minutes and wipe down the impossible to remove stuck on splatter with ease. The steaming and acidity from the lemon will remove even the toughest stains from your microwave.
Rusty tools
Tools left in a humid environments will eventually rust. Try putting your rusty tool in a bucket of white vinegar. Let it sit a few minutes and start scrubbing with an old tooth brush or whatever brush you have available. Then use a second bucket or bowl with one part soda, two parts water and let soak 5 minutes. Rinse with water and wipe down. Try coating your now shiny tool with oil or auto wax prior to storing to reduce future rust.
Dusty surfaces
You can reduce dust build up on flat surfaces by wiping an old drier sheet over the surface. This will repel the dust, decreasing the need to dust frequently.
Shower head
Fill a plastic bag with distilled white vinegar and attach it to the shower head with an elastic. Immersing the entire shower head in vinegar will help remove lime scale. Leave it until the next time you use the shower, then remove and wipe it down. The acidity in the vinegar will also eat away at the lime scale deposits inside the shower head so you get better flow.
Blender or magic bullet
This cleaning tip may be obvious to you, but not everyone cleans their blenders and magic bullets this way. Simply add hot water and a few drops of dish soap in the blender or magic bullet immediately after use and blend. This is the easiest and safest way to clean those sharp blades.
Ceiling Fans
Try using a pillow case to clean fan blades. Slide the pillow case over each blade, the dust will get trapped inside the pillow case as you pull off. Once you’re done you can empty out or vacuum the inside of the pillow case. Turn the pillow case inside out and throw it in the wash for a good cleaning.
Window blinds
Clean window blinds with an old cotton sock worn like a mitten. Simply soak the sock in hot water with vinegar and start wiping. You can wipe any surface with this set up. Just make sure you use a clean sock 🙂 even if it’s an old one with holes in it.
Grease
Is there a grease monkey in your family? Try rubbing chalk over the grease spot, then wipe with a hot damp cloth.
