Office cleaning service tips
Lunchroom hygiene is important. Our office cleaning service tips may help your employees keep the lunchroom area cleaner in between professional cleanings.
A Cleaner Lunchroom
If you manage a business with more then a few employees, getting those dirty dishes out of the sink can be quite challenging. As a manager, how can you convince your employees to clean their dishes everyday and tidy up once lunch is over?
One of the best methods is to educate. Illnesses are one of the leading causes in the workplace for loss of productivity. Both the employee and employer suffer a financial loss when an employee becomes ill, and it usually gets worse before it gets better. The illness is likely to spread at work. To prevent or reduce contact with germs in the workplace, keeping the lunchroom clean is a great place to start. Below is a few tips that may help reduce loss of productivity and revenue due to sick days.
Assign an employee to kitchen maintenance
Assign an employee every week to run hot water and dish soap into the sink at the start of lunch break. Each employee can go to the sink and wash their plates, cups and utensils once they finish eating. They will be more inclined to wash their dishes-rather than putting their dirty dishes in the sink-if the sink is filled with water and dish soap beforehand. If that fails, then the assigned employee for the week can clean the dishes at the end of the lunch break and wipe down the tables while draining the sink. That extra five minutes can pay dividends when it helps reduce illness in the workplace. Reducing sick call-ins is more productive for your business and increases revenue.
Dirty Dish Wash Cloth
Leaving the dish washcloth in a sink full of dirty dishes is a perfect environment for bacteria to accumulate. And that’s bad news for everyone. Educating your employees with posted signs on the wall above the sink, may be all it takes to reduce sick call-ins. Our office cleaning service has seen dirty dish wash cloths stacked on top of dirty dishes in the sink on occasion. If we are scheduled to clean once or twice weekly, you can imagine how much bacteria has built up in between those scheduled cleanings.
A simple method to promote good hygiene is by posting signs inside the washroom doors. Posting on lunchroom refrigerator doors or on the wall behind the sink faucets is another. Reminding employees to wash their hands often at work with posted signs on walls and doors is due diligence. Our office cleaning service can provide these signs for your facility.
Discourage employees from leaving their food out in the kitchen or in the office. Rodents & insects also spread disease. Making it more difficult for them to find food may encourage them to move on to greener pastures.
Getting everyone to pick up after themselves will prevent an accumulation of waste. A clean and tidy lunchroom may even lift workplace morale. A messy lunchroom may raise complaints and tension among co-workers. In our experience, no one ever complains about a clean tidy lunchroom.
Bringing up personal hygiene and cleanliness occasionally at tail gate meetings and production meetings will re-enforce good habits. Cleaning, organizing and good personal hygiene will always lead to more productivity and is good for workplace morale.
